The Week Between Christmas and New Years

The Week Between Christmas and New Years

The week between Christmas and New Years sometimes feels like the state of oblivion. The state of losing all conscious of what day it is, what time it is and even what year it is. The days just seem to blend together, am I right? You are in this bubble of Christmas magic with a slight excitement but also weariness of the New Year approaching. Depending if you had a good or a bad year, you may be excited for the clock to slight midnight with a glimmer of hope of the new that is coming, or you may feel dread that this year was not as it should have been.

Here are a few things that I like to do during the week between Christmas and New Years that make me feel prepared for the New Year.

  • The Week Between Christmas and New Years I Organize everything (photos from the current year, files on my computer and de cluttering my work space) I actually put everything from the current year on a hard drive and remove everything off my computer so I start fresh into the New Year. All the old is still accessible, but I feel decluttered and ready to begin into the year ahead.
  • The Week Between Christmas and New Years I Take down my Christmas decor (I know with how crazy I am about Christmas this shocks everyone), but as much as I am crazy about Christmas I like to be organized walking into a new year. I like everything clean, put away, organized, decluttered, and with only what is essential. This is a great time to go through things that no longer “spark joy”
  • The Week Between Christmas and New Years I Eat all the leftover Christmas goodies (I mean you don’t want to be going into the New Year with all those goodies hanging around lol, or just an excuse to eat all the things)
  • The Week Between Christmas and New Years I toast to all that was, and all that is yet to come (life is meant to be celebrated). Look back and take a moment to be grateful for everything
  • The Week Between Christmas and New Years I check in on those people you love. Some people find this week very isolating and lonely. (Make sure you check in on your friends who may not have had the chance to be with family around the holidays especially singles).
  • The Week Between Christmas and New Years, I plan a hang out with great people. Meet up for brunch, go to a show, do some last minute returns/shopping with them or invite them over for a hang out.
  • The Week Between Christmas and New Years, I take a mini roadtrip somewhere close for one last trip before the New Year
  • The Week Between Christmas and New Years, I Sleep! Sleep does your body so good, and sometimes you are running on auto pilot that you don’t even know that your body needs rest for what is to come.
  • Hang out with people who refresh you. Hang out with people who you know will be coming into the new year with you. value them, love on them and invest in them.
  • The Week Between Christmas and New Years, I Clean out that junk drawer, donate old things, wash the bedding, and get rid of things that no longer serve you.
  • Reflect on the past year, what was good, what wasn’t so good. What habits do you want to keep, and what habits do you want to change?
  • The Week Between Christmas and New Years, I finish anything that was on the checklist. Go in with a fresh empty checklist into the next year.
  • Write a list of things you would like to accomplish, and a bucket list of your hopes for 2025!

How do you prep yourself for the New Year?
