When we meet someone that we think we are interested in we often want these miraculous signs and wonders that this is the person God has for us, but rarely does it ever happen this way. God does not reject human free will and God doesn’t force things. He may give signs, He may lead, but the end of the day He allows us choice to choose the way which is what makes Him such a loving father is He doesn’t force our hand.
Relationship are a choice – you can have all the signs, confirmations and miracles but you still need to move in faith. Faith requires active participation because faith without works is dead (James 2:26)
It’s not about finding the one, it’s not about there is one perfect person out there for everyone. There are many possibilities out there and YOU get to choose the best one for the role of spouse.
I know in my life that I was scared to settle down with one person because well what if my picker was off?, and what if there was something better out there for me? And at this point in my life I am glad that I waited (because my picker was indeed off), but when you find someone who makes your life better with them in it then without then it’s your job to create the marriage you desire with someone who makes you better.
I suggest asking yourself three questions when choosing a life partner.
#1 Is the presence of Jesus in this relationship? #2 Does this person make me a better version of myself? #3 Would Jesus be pleased with this relationship
If you answered yes to all three of these questions then the choice is yours. You get to use the wisdom God gifts you to choose who you want as your spouse.
When looking for a life partner you have to remember that we all fall short, not one of us is perfect, we all have past experiences, things we have dealt with and things we struggle with. Perfection isn’t attainable and fairy tales have lied about happily ever after, but what you are looking for is someone who you can solve problems with, encourage, walk through hard times with, grieve with, celebrate milestones and successes and deal with anything else this crazy life throws our way.
