Choosing Faith Over Feelings

Just last week, I came across a post from a Christian woman who’s about to turn 30. She’s single, and she shared her thoughts on a ‘friends with benefits’ situation with a man who doesn’t share her Christian faith. I could feel her struggle through her words. Now, it’s tempting to say, “I’d never do that!” But let’s be real; we’ve all faced moments where patience wears thin, and the waiting feels too long. Haven’t we?

This woman knows deep down he isn’t the one for her, but the pull is strong. And let’s acknowledge something: sexual desire is a genuine feeling, but acting on it outside of marriage is a sin. The Bible’s teachings are clear on this.

Do mistakes have a place for forgiveness in God’s eyes? Absolutely. His grace is boundless. But let’s not take that grace for granted. If you ever find yourself on the edge, thinking of settling, remember: God is saving the best for you. Don’t act on a fleeting feeling that could have lasting consequences.

Dive into the Bible. It’s our compass, our guide. What we focus on grows bigger in our lives. So if you’re zeroed in on personal desires, it’s no surprise that they start to take over. Just because we feel something strongly doesn’t make it the ultimate truth. Jesus is the truth! If our feelings and wants aren’t in sync with God’s word, we need a reset.

But here’s the beautiful part: When we center our attention on Jesus and His teachings, growth happens. We evolve. Our desires to please Him surpass our momentary wants. Choosing Jesus over our temporary desires becomes easier. Some of our desires may align with God’s plan, but He will never go against His Word.

Lean on Him. Believe that He’s charted out the best path for you. Embrace this single season, grow in faith, and remember: you’re never truly alone. Cast your worries on Him. He’s got big plans for you. Stay strong and hold on to faith over feelings.
