Obedience

When you think of obedience, what usually first comes to mind? Is it strictness or enforcing rules? Is it your childhood and all the restrictions that come to mind that your parents had in place?

Obedience simply means “compliance with an order, request, or law or submission to another’s authority.”

Ultimately it is saying whatever you say I will do, Your request is my command or I am fully submitted to you.

So often when we think of the christian walk we think of “ok if I say this prayer I will receive salvation and I’m good, but did you know there are 7,487 promises made by God to humankind? so what does that tell us – yes obviously salvation is important, but the christian walk has so much more than just say the pray, believe the thing and you are saved.

What we don’t really comprehend is that they are conditional promises meaning that it is a if you do this (Insert blank) then I will do this. (insert blank)

Such as Exodus 19:5 which says if you obey me and keep my covenant then you will be my treasured possession

or

Romans 2:6-8 which says God “will repay each person according to what they have done.”  To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life. But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger.

and a million more examples in the bible are just the same – it requires obedience. The promises require obedience.

If you ever wonder why sometimes god isn’t answering your prayers, go see what condition the promise has attached to it and are you doing the things he requires of you? He isn’t a magic genie who just gives you what you want when you want it. It’s a partnership, it’s a relationship, it’s a covenant.

He is a good father, he isn’t going to hand a baby keys to a car when they don’t have the ability to drive it and it’s unsafe to do so he isn’t going to give you something you aren’t ready to receive. He requires obedience to what he is asking of you today.

In my life I have seen things work together, align perfectly and work things out for good when I am obedient to him but I have also seen when I am not obedient to him and things end up messy, chaotic, fall apart and the list goes on …

I would rather live a sacrificial life obedient to him and have his blessing than to do things my own way and end up falling short every time or struggling to make things fit in my own strength.

You will never regret obeying god! It may feel shaky in the unknown but watch what unfolds when you step out and step in alignment with him.
