Run To The Father

I won’t tell you I’ve been the perfect Christian. Though I grew up in a Christian home, I wasn’t convinced God loved me. I thought for sure I made too many mistakes. Why would He put up with someone like me? Then something beautiful happened. I understood the power of grace!

I learned early on that God doesn’t want perfection. He wants obedience. Not to burden us, but to maintain intimacy. He doesn’t want anything to draw a wedge between Him and us, His beloved. Sounds reasonable, but what about when we mess up? What if our past is too much? Where do we go if shame is part of our story? Where do we run if guilt has us weighed down? What if we can’t measure up?

Can I tell you something? We never will! I know. Not much of a shocker, but some of us still carry condemnation. We buy into the lies of the enemy and even ourselves, thinking we have to meet God’s approval. Now, this doesn’t excuse sin, but it means we don’t have to do anything to earn God’s love. He’s given it to us already!

So what do we do when life knocks us down? Run to the Father! If you’ve heard the song by Cody Carnes, you know the line, “run to the father again, and again, and again.” That’s what I encourage you to do. Whether you’re weary or on the mountaintop. In a wilderness season or in the best season of your life. Never stop running to the Father.

The more I keep running to His presence and His word, the more I find the things that used to hold me back don’t stick like they used to. Think of a piece of tape losing its adhesiveness. It’s still there, but it doesn’t have a firm grip anymore. That’s what happens when we run to the Father. Things lose their grip.

Want to conquer loneliness as a single? Get in the word! Need patience? Get in the word! Want peace? Get in the word!

Are these things still there? Absolutely. They won’t ever go away as long as we live in a human body in a sin filled world. Yet, they can lose their power because what we feed grows. If you feed into loneliness, that grows. If you feed into fear, that intensifies. Get the picture?

I’m telling you to feed your spirit regularly. We just celebrated resurrection Sunday, so don’t let that be the last time you go to church. Make God a priority and run to the Father. Want to know how we can change the world and make an impact? Through the gospel. It’s never changed but has the same power it did over 2000 years ago.

Jesus is the antidote to sin. How ridiculous would we look having the cure for diseases but ran around panicked with everyone else? We have the solution. The Father. He always is and always will be the one we can run to. The question is, will you?
