6 Ways To Break Out Of A Dating Rut

Do You Feel Like You Are In A Dating Rut? How Do You Break Out Of A Dating Rut?

This week I did a poll on my Instagram stories and more people were either not dating or frustrated with dating. Dating does not have to be as frustrating as we have made it. So what do you do? How do you break out of a dating rut?

If you are frustrated with your current dating life, here are some tips to break out of a dating rut.

#1 Way To Break Out Of A Dating Rut, Be happy with your current life.

The best way to become happy in your life is to create that happiness. If there are aspects in your current life that you are unhappy with or that don’t feel like your best self then work on them. The only person who can shift these things is you. It’s so easy to be in a dating rut, and a lot harder to break out of a dating rut, but the only one who can do it is you. Do things that make you feel great.

By focusing on things I love to do I am able to maintain feeling good rather than feeling like I am putting everything into someone else rather than myself. Remember you are in control of your narrative, you are in control of your thoughts, your actions, your feelings.

#2 Way To Break Out Of A Dating Rut, ask your friends/mentors for dating advice

Sometimes (more times than not) we tend to do something that makes us appear to be someone we aren’t when it comes to dating. This happens because our emotions get wrapped up in someone else and we often forget to just be our best selves.

Call up people you trust and get their opinion(s) on your dating situation/ your dating profiles/your mindset/perspective. We are often blind to our own situation, but getting an outside perspective will help us to not get in our own head with everything.

#3 Way To Break Out Of A Dating Rut, remember you are worthy

When we are in a dating slump it is then that we begin to settle, we begin to accept behaviour from the opposite sex that we should never accept and we begin to doubt our own worth.

In times when I don’t remember my own worth here are a few things I do: write out things/qualities I love about myself, reflect back to past experiences such as places I have travelled, experiences I have had, things that have made me “me”, and things I have been through that have made me stronger, wiser, and better. This helps me remember my worth, reminds me that there is only one of me and that I am perfectly and uniquely made exactly how I am.

#4 Way To Break Out Of A Dating Rut, narrow your search

When you have this extremely broad criteria it’s going to be frustrating when dating because you have no specifics or criteria for a future partner. Start narrowing your search down and start being more specific in your search on dating apps so that you are actually looking at quality rather than quantity.

Start doing some self reflection, where will you be in 5 years? What does your life look like? If you don’t know where you are headed than how do you expect to know someone who is aligned. If you are called to the Mission Field you are probably not going to be compatible with the stay at home caretaker who is quite settled in their life (or vice versa). Start reflecting on where God is taking you so you know who will help you rather than hinder that.

#5 Way To Break Out Of A Dating Rut, take a break from dating apps

If you have been feeling the dating app fatigue maybe it’s time to give it a break and get a refresh from the apps. Often times if we have been swiping and scrolling for months on ends we can get burnt out and need a detox. Take some time and take a break from dating apps.

#6 Way To Break Out Of A Dating Rut, get to know people who aren’t your “typical” type

Most couples I have had the pleasure of meeting or setting up have found the most success with people they have met that they never thought they would end up with or who weren’t their typical type. Try chatting with someone that you would never think to chat with and give someone a chance that isn’t your “typical” type.
