As the holiday season rolls in, I know it can be tempting to fall into the ‘Single Blues’. Everywhere you look, romance seems to be in the air – it’s cold outside, and the idea of cuffing season is all around. But I want to encourage you, don’t let this time be stolen from you. Being single during the holidays can be challenging, but it’s also a unique opportunity to embrace where you are right now.
You might be wondering, how do you make the most of the holidays without a spouse by your side? Or how do you handle those inevitable questions from family and friends about why you’re still single? I’ve been there, believe me. When people asked me when I was getting married, my go-to response was, “When the time is right, I’ll know.”
I remember trying to make the most of those times. I’d join my family to see Christmas lights – one year, we even drove through a light display synced to music! It was fantastic. I’d watch all my favorite Christmas movies, yes, even the classics like ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ and ‘White Christmas’. Decorating the house while Christmas music played in the background was a tradition. And lying under the Christmas tree? I can’t explain why, but it’s something I love.
So, what brings a smile to your face? What can you focus on besides your singleness? It’s not always easy, and yes, it does take some practice to not let certain thoughts linger and wear you down. But trust me, it can be done.
And don’t forget, this is a crucial time to stay close to God. If there’s anyone who wants to spend the holidays with you, it’s Jesus. And not just for the season, but for all the days of your life. While you’re waiting for that special someone, make the most of what you have now. I was single for 12 Christmases in a row. This is my first holiday season as a married woman. If God could change my story, He can change yours too.
I’m not here to tell you to just ‘get over it’ – that wouldn’t be fair. What I want to share is that God knows how to turn things around in your life. This season is not just a waiting period; it’s a time for growth, for deepening your relationship with God, and for preparing yourself for whatever lies ahead.
To all the Christian singles out there, remember, you’re not alone. God has never left you. Make this holiday season one of joy, reflection, and appreciation for the present moment. Be proud of where you are and excited for what’s to come.
