Don’t Give Up

I recently stumbled upon a post where a woman in her late 20s was told by her own mom to “give up on getting married.” Wow. Can you believe it? If you’ve ever heard the same, or if you’re older and feel like the window is closing, let me tell you—you’re not alone. But you’re also not bound by anyone’s timeline but God’s.

Here’s the deal: Sometimes, even the people who love us can unintentionally discourage us. They think they’re helping, but they end up making us question our worth and our dreams. It’s like a mental treadmill—you’re already running the “when will it happen for me?” marathon in your head.

When I turned 30, I was still living at home and wasn’t married yet. But my parents didn’t make me feel less-than for it. My mom used to say, “The person you marry is your life’s second most important decision. Choose wisely.” And my dad? He’d pray for me to find someone who loves me like Christ loves the church.

I get it—not everyone has that supportive cushion. But here’s your permission slip: You don’t have to take in all the opinions, even if they come from family. If you’re earnestly seeking a Godly relationship, don’t let anyone or anything sidetrack you. Deepen your relationship with Jesus first. No ulterior motives—just pure love and obedience to Him.

Ever heard someone tell you your standards are too high? Yep, me too. Guess what? I married at 32, not 30. And not just to anyone—but to a man who lifts me up in prayer and supports my God given purpose. So when folks (mostly Christians) said my prayers for a Godly spouse wasn’t “realistic,” God said otherwise.

Take it from someone who’s been there—don’t “give up.” Instead, lean that much harder into your faith. Your journey is uniquely yours, but always remember: God’s timing is perfect.
